The vision for this church keeps expanding as God continues to draw us closer to Him and reveal certain things. We know that we will be a church strong in community relationships and deeds. We want people to know that we will help with all that we can give. From our beginnings, we want to be active in the community, involved in community groups, helping people in need. Whether it's having a meal to serve the needy, painting a house, mowing a yard, or just visiting someone who needs a friendly face, we want to serve the community. We want to share the love that Christ has given us.
People have somehow gotten a distorted view of Christ and the church. We want to change that! So the question is, "How do we do that?"
We believe that by being actively involved in the community doing good works and simply loving people with the love of Christ, we can make a difference. We are not to be judgemental, but loving of all individuals as they are.
On the home page of our website are six graphics that rotate. Each of these has a saying that is a description of the values that drive our church.
Below is a list of each of those values, why they are important to us, and the scripture God used to reveal them to us.
Pastor Markis is beginning to write more about these values on his blog as the Lord reveals things to him. Please check it frequently by clicking here!
DARING...to reach out...
We must teach, but do so by reaching out and loving the lost.
2 Timothy 4:1-5, NLT
1 And so I solemnly urge you before God and before Christ Jesus—who will someday judge the living and the dead when he appears to set up his Kingdom: 2 Preach the word of God. Be persistent, whether the time is favorable or not. Patiently correct, rebuke, and encourage your people with good teaching.
3 For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to right teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever they want to hear.
4 They will reject the truth and follow strange myths.
5 But you should keep a clear mind in every situation. Don’t be afraid of suffering for the Lord. Work at bringing others to Christ. Complete the ministry God has given you.
SHARING...God's love and grace...
We must share his love and grace with everyone we meet.
Romans 13:8-10, NLT
8 Pay all your debts, except the debt of love for others. You can never finish paying that! If you love your neighbor, you will fulfill all the requirements of God’s law. 9 For the commandments against adultery and murder and stealing and coveting—and any other commandment—are all summed up in this one commandment: "Love your neighbor as yourself."
10 Love does no wrong to anyone, so love satisfies all of God’s requirements.
CARING...for one another...
We must care for those who are in need.
Romans 12:9-21
9 Don’t just pretend that you love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Stand on the side of the good. 10 Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other. 11 Never be lazy in your work, but serve the Lord enthusiastically.
12 Be glad for all God is planning for you. Be patient in trouble, and always be prayerful. 13 When God’s children are in need, be the one to help them out. And get into the habit of inviting guests home for dinner or, if they need lodging, for the night.
14 If people persecute you because you are a Christian, don’t curse them; pray that God will bless them. 15 When others are happy, be happy with them. If they are sad, share their sorrow. 16 Live in harmony with each other. Don’t try to act important, but enjoy the company of ordinary people. And don’t think you know it all!
17 Never pay back evil for evil to anyone. Do things in such a way that everyone can see you are honorable. 18 Do your part to live in peace with everyone, as much as possible.
19 Dear friends, never avenge yourselves. Leave that to God. For it is written, "I will take vengeance; I will repay those who deserve it," says the Lord.
20 Instead, do what the Scriptures say: "If your enemies are hungry, feed them.
If they are thirsty, give them something to drink,
and they will be ashamed of what they have done to you."
21 Don’t let evil get the best of you, but conquer evil by doing good.
LOVING...a community in need...
They see who we are by our actions; we must be a good example.
1 John 3:11-20, NLT
11 This is the message we have heard from the beginning: We should love one another. 12 We must not be like Cain, who belonged to the evil one and killed his brother. And why did he kill him? Because Cain had been doing what was evil, and his brother had been doing what was right. 13 So don’t be surprised, dear brothers and sisters, if the world hates you.
14 If we love our Christian brothers and sisters, it proves that we have passed from death to eternal life. But a person who has no love is still dead. 15 Anyone who hates another Christian is really a murderer at heart. And you know that murderers don’t have eternal life within them. 16 We know what real love is because Christ gave up his life for us. And so we also ought to give up our lives for our Christian brothers and sisters. 17 But if anyone has enough money to live well and sees a brother or sister in need and refuses to help—how can God’s love be in that person?
18 Dear children, let us stop just saying we love each other; let us really show it by our actions. 19 It is by our actions that we know we are living in the truth, so we will be confident when we stand before the Lord, 20 even if our hearts condemn us. For God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything.
EQUIPPING...a family for God...
We equip one another by using the gifts that God has given us.
Ephesians 4:11-16, NLT
11 He is the one who gave these gifts to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. 12 Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ, 13 until we come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God’s Son that we will be mature and full grown in the Lord, measuring up to the full stature of Christ.
14 Then we will no longer be like children, forever changing our minds about what we believe because someone has told us something different or because someone has cleverly lied to us and made the lie sound like the truth. 15 Instead, we will hold to the truth in love, becoming more and more in every way like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church. 16 Under his direction, the whole body is fitted together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.
and REACHING...the world for Christ!
And then we go and share his love with more!
Matthew 28:19-20
19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.
